The type of AU (alternate universe) where there’s no definite divergence point(s), or the point(s) are far in the past, which resulted in a bunch of canon events, people and settings being just a bit (or completely) off.
Oh those characters switched powers, this bad guy is actually a good guy, main character had a completely different childhood etc etc.
Some authors love to do that, but I hate it, one thing about fanfiction I like is reader foreknowledge, why would you read fanfics if not for the characters and events you already know.
This is just annoying, hence the name of the tag.

When by 5th grader logic the character must’ve won or otherwise succeeded - or lost, actually - but they didn’t because author needed the plot to happen.
A sign of bad/failed power fantasy, often the author is prejudiced against mary sue or something, but they did make a god character and then they’re trying to make up the stakes by making them stupid, or - and that happens equally as often - by giving the enemies plot armor or ooc genius planning capabilities etc.

A type of fiction where the level of absurd and chaos is cranked all the way up for comedic purposes. Most often this works very well, and such works are really funny

A known fanfiction genre, when the author strives to more or less preserve canon, yet adjust the story to “fix” issues that some characters have, or to avoid bad events etc etc.

There’s a noticeable amount of focus on meat.
People get dismembered and gruesomely killed, maimed, maybe experimented on etc etc.
Having strong regen still counts if there are still visceral descriptions of it.

When the work is depressing, bad stuff happens, bad guys win etc.
The original Worm actually falls into this category, and from what I heard Ward does too.

And bacon.
A bit hard to describe, but it’s a specific genre of humor, that’s not necessarily crack, although they do intersect on the Venn diagram.

The concept of multiverse plays a significant role. In fanfiction this typically means jumping between settings.
Note that mashing settings together in a single universe is fusion

A very short work, typically less than 5k words, no chapters.
Describes a single scene or event.
I usually don’t read those, but sometimes I do, almost on accident, since they are so short.

OP is short for “overpowered”, is a classic trope where the character is excessively strong. Can be done well and is part of escapism.

A (typically frowned upon) trope, where the main character always or almost always wins in battles, social situations etc.
Can be done poorly, can be done well.

When the character either is, or becomes for a significant portion of the story, an unstoppable god, literally an omnipotent being in creative mode.
With varying degrees of course, but when things like that happen it is distinct.
Does not count when it is at the very end of the story, as it happens often.
Sometimes the character does not immediately win, 99% of the time because of contrivances.
More often than not is a CYOA.

A rare occasion where the author succeeded in making the obscene amount of smut scenes in their work make sense.
At least for some significant portion of the work.

The work has a (sub)set of traits of the so-called “rational fiction”, which was spawned by HPMOR.
There’s a whole list of said traits on their reddit

The work starts (usually) with the protagonist being reborn - they are an adult in a child/teenager body, which usually is an asset for getting power and resources.
Very often is also canon aware.

A genre of works where a lot of focus is on day-to-day life and (hopefully) interactions of characters.
Hard to get right, is often boring and in my experience usually done to pad the word count.

When the fic dies immediately after starting, it gives us a taste of the premise - but then there’s nothing more to it.
Very different from a oneshot, which is usually a complete mini-story or at least a logically cut out scene, here it just abruptly ends at the very beginning.

The main goal/focus of the protagonist is to endure some kind of life-threatening situation.
I rarely read things like those, but depending on other tags/tropes this might be something interesting.
