A big forum, I don’t interact with forums much, but it got history.

Forums are very annoying for fiction, but sadly people are used to it and a lot of it is hosted there.

Main annoyances

  • you can’t comment on individual chapters, because forum thread postings are linear, so if the second chapter makes you want to comment on it you can’t really, if the fic got fifty more;
  • you can’t comment on “dead” threads, so if the fic died and no people commented on it for a few months it’s “necroposting” - because commenting on something brings it up in the forum list view, and notifies people who are subscribed not only to author posts for some reason, and gets them excited that the fic got revived - again, forums are a horrible form of hosting for fiction;
  • well they added threadmarks at least, but before that author posts were almost indistinguishable from any other post and authors had to make their own indices - meaning no standardization;
  • no downloads - you need to use a scraper to convert it to epub, and those aren’t perfect;
